The day you learn to run will forever shape the way you approach life. Now I warn y’all in previous posts and on the About page that I use puns like they’re going out of style and cliche phrases far too often. But what I am referring to right here, right now, is all about finding your passion, your purpose, your drive, or whatever you want to call it.
Growing up we’re slammed with the concept of finding your true passion and follow it at all costs. Remember the phrase “do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life?” Me too, I hear it all the time and it’s in almost every other positivity meme or article we see on FB, IG, or whatever the new social media platform is . Well let me tell you, finding your ONE true calling is a lot easier said than done. Sure, I have a ton of hobbies and interests just like the next guy, but would I call any of them my passion? NOPE
Society constantly tells us to follow your passion, take that passion and turn it into and idea, then take that idea and turn it into a startup, then sell that startup to Amazon (they’re taking over the world BTW in case you haven’t noticed) and make a Trillion Dollar$$. Then, you’ll be happy and can go travel the world. This is absolutely NONSENSE – for most of us at least.
Enough ranting about false hopes of finding our calling or passion – if you’ve found yours, I’m happy for you. If you haven’t, don’t worry, just keep reading and let me get back to the main topic…
Breaking down the idea of “The Day We Learn To Run” can easily be translated to the day we discover how to be passionate, passionate about LIFE. Why be passionate about just one, or even a few things? Why not put passion into everything we do? When putting any effort into a task, idea, hobby, etc, why settle with being a half ass? If you’re going to spend your time doing something, make it meaningful and feel the reward of that same something you’re putting your most valuable resource in, time. Overall, we don’t have time to not be passionate. At the very least, put a smile on and get it done.
Learning to be passionate about life will allow us to be happier. We’ll put more effort into relationships, put more energy into our work, see the world in the most positive light, and truly understand what it means to be alive. Cliche? You bet your ass it is!
Ever wonder how some individuals get so much done and are so mentally and physically strong? Me too…
However, have you heard of “The Navy Seal 40% Rule?” Seals are taught that when they think they can’t go any further – whether that be physically, mentally, or both – that they are actually only 40% to being at their tipping point. I’ve only found my “60-75% rule” with the Seal approach, and it’s mostly in physical situations such as working out this applies.
To wrap this up, let me tell you a little story on how this rant came about. The other day I came across one of the best short films I’ve ever seen. It is a combination documentary / marketing effort / branded content of Jason Momoa, the actor most famous for his character in GOT and upcoming addition to the super hero world as Aquaman. It sounds like his hobbies and interests guided him throughout his younger years. He skipped around, not knowing exactly what he wanted to do other than be his version of a “dirtbag.” Until one day, it hit him and everything came together.
Now, are we all destined to be movie stars? Probably not but inspiration comes from all different types of places, and once you learn to run, life gets that much better.
I’ll end my ranting, raving, outburst, guidance, blabber, or whatever you take away from my words with a link to the video. Hope you enjoy as much as I did.
such a powerful video! thanks for sharing.
